Unlike Australia and the UK, New Zealand has no tax-free threshold — tax applies from the first dollar earned, which is why effective rates start relatively high at the bottom of the table. The ACC earners’ levy adds 1.75% of liable earnings, capped at NZ$156,641 of income, so the maximum levy is NZ$2,741 a year. That cap is why the ACC column stops rising at the top of the table.
